QUEENS, NY— The York College softball team struggled in a conference doubleheader against John Jay College on Thursday afternoon losing by scores of 12-2 and 19-8.

Walks were once again an issue for the Lady Cardinals as they allowed ten free passes in each game.  Errors were also a problem, particularly in game two, where six miscues led to eight unearned runs.

York was undone in the top of the second of game one when the Bloodhounds plated eight runs.  York allowed five runners to reach via the walk and John Jay took advantage.  Two-run singles by John Jay's Angela Lam and Nelly Vega helped break the inning open.

The Lady Cardinals two runs came on a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the third off the bat of Danielle Dunn.

Game two was an especially wild affair as the two teams combined to score 13 runs in the first inning of play.  The Bloodhounds opened the game with a nine-spot on the board.  John Jay banged out five hits and worked three walks and two hit-batters in the inning.  The big hits were two-run singles by Kalyssa Daley and Leidy Lopera.

York plated four runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning.  After loading the bases to start the frame, Chiquita Greene brought home a run with a single to left field.  On the play, a throwing error by the pitcher allowed two more runs to score.  Greene would later come around to score on a wild pitch to round out the scoring for the inning.

The Bloodhounds had an even bigger inning in the top of the third, bringing home ten runs.  Errors would prove costly this inning, as York committed three of them, which was the main reason for the big inning.  Only two of the runs that inning would end up being earned runs.

After scoring a run in the second, York managed three more runs in the third, thanks in large part to a two-run single by Shauneille Sinanan.  York added the last run on a John Jay error.

With the losses, York drops to 3-17, 2-8 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay improves to 9-15, 4-6 in conference play.  The Lady Cardinals will host Baruch College on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
