QUEENS, NY— The York College softball team lost a pair of wild games to conference-rival Lehman College on Wednesday afternoon losing two high-scoring games. The Lightning took game one 23-9 and game two 21-5.
Game one was particularly crazy, as York put up a seven-spot in the bottom of the first inning to go up 7-1. The Lady Cardinals benefitted mostly from some erratic Lehman pitching but also got run-scoring hits from Aileen Abad, Jennifer Duverge and Krystina Rivera.
The lead would be short-lived, however, as the Lightning responded with ten runs in top-half of the second inning. Lehman banged out six hits and benefitted form a number of walks and two miscues in the field to put up the crooked number.
York could only manage a single run in both the second and third innings, while Lehman put five runs in the fourth and seven more in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Errors proved costly for York, as the team made nine miscues, which led to 17 runs being unearned.
The Lady Cardinals were never really in game two as sloppy play allowed the Lightning to put York away early. Lehman scored seven runs to start the game and managed all seven runs with two outs. Lehman continued to pile it on, plating four runs in the second, third and fourth innings to pull away.
York scored three runs in the second thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Liza Rivera and an RBI ground out by Abad. In the third, Danielle Dunn brought home a run on a sacrifice fly and another run later scored on a Lehman throwing error. That would be all the scoring for York in game two.
Lehman's Nicole Pinero had a monster game two, going 3-for-5 with seven RBIs. Her big hit was a three-run triple in the top of the fourth.
The loss drops York's record to 3-15 and 2-6 in the CUNY Athletic Conference, while Lehman improves to 4-16, 4-8 in the CUNYAC.
York will host John Jay College on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
