QUEENS, NY—The York College softball team split a doubleheader with the College of Mount Saint Vincent Tuesday afternoon, winning game one, 8-0, but falling in game two by a score of 12-2.

Game One Recap

York opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first.  After York made two quick outs, Chiquita Greene singled and later advanced to third base on a passed ball and a wild pitch.  Thessaly Belizario then lined a double to bring home Greene for the game's first run.

York added another run in the second inning when Phylicia Harrison singled to bring home Danielle Dunn, who had singled earlier in the inning.

The Lady Cardinals then broke the game open in the third, scoring three more runs to go up by a score of 5-0.  With two runners on, Liza Rivera singled home a run to put York up 3-0.  Two batters later, Dunn earned a bases-loaded walk to force in a run.  Aileen Abad then recorded an RBI on a ground out to round out the scoring in the inning.

York later tallied three more runs in the sixth thanks to an RBI triple by Belizario and a couple misplays by Mount Saint Vincent.

Meanwhile, York pitcher Michelle DeLeon was dominant, tossing 5.2 innings, allowing two hits and striking out four to earn the victory.

Belizario went 2-3 on the day with two runs and two RBI's and Chiquita Greene was 2-4 with two runs scored.

Game Two Recap

Things did not go as well for York in the nightcap.  Mount Saint Vincent scored in each frame to earn a blowout victory.

MSV's Marni O'Shea doubled home a run and later scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead after the first. The Dolphins scored a run in the second and two in the third, before breaking it open in the fourth with a four-run frame.   Leanne Cerbone had a two-RBI single and Katherine Postel added an RBI single as well to put MSV up 8-0 going into the bottom of the fourth.

York got on the board in the bottom half of the inning.  Liza Rivera started the inning with a double and DeLeon walked to put two runners on.  After the runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch, Dunn brought them both home with a two-RBI single.

That would be all the scoring York could muster.  The Dolphins then plated four more runs in the fifth inning to round out the scoring.

With the split, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 1-11 on the season, while York is now 1-5.  The Cardinals will host the College of New Rochelle on Thursday at 4:15.
