York Wins Hard-Fought Match Over CCNY

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's volleyball team won a tightly-contest match over the City College of New York Thursday night, defeating the Beavers by a score of 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-20) in a CUNY Athletic Conference contest.
York once against got big performance from its two standout freshman, Ahmed Helmi and Terrence Sutton. Helmi, the two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, slammed 19 kills (.419 hitting percentage), served up five aces, had five digs and blocked two shots and Sutton registered 12 kills (.304), recorded a match-high eight digs and added two blocks.
Also contributing for York was setter Kenan Kajtezovic who set up 42 points, while adding six digs and Alex Niles who finished with 11 kills, seven digs and five blocks. Jhonnattan Fernandez added five kills and three blocks.
CCNY was led by Matthew Ng who notched 10 kills and Nicholas Siriban who finished with nine.
After dropping the first set, York came on strong in the second set to even the score. The third set was the closest set, with York holding a narrow lead for the majority. With the score 24-23 in favor of York, Sutton slammed a kill to clinch the pivotal set.
With the win, York evens its record up at 9-9 overall and improves to 4-2 in conference play. CCNY drops to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in the CUNYAC.
