Men’s Volleyball Drops Season Opener to Mt. Olive

JAMAICA, NY— Despite a match-high eight kills from Ahmed Helmi, the York College men's volleyball team dropped its season-opening match to Mt. Olive College by a score of 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-13) on Friday evening.

Mt. Olive was able to build off a strong service game which saw them tally 13 aces on the night.  The Trojans also hit at a .300 hitting percentage, compared to .022 for York, and they blocked ten shots compared to York's four.     The Trojans were never really threatened except for a brief moment in the second set when York cut a 21-10 deficit to 23-17.  That would be as close as York could get as the Trojans took would take two of the next three points to win the set. 

Mt. Olive was led by Jack Tutty who had a team-high five kills and five blocks.  Steven Cruse served up six aces and added four kills. 

Helmi added three aces and two digs to his match-high kill total for York.  Terrence Sutton added five kills and Kenan Kajtezovic had a match-high 16 assists.

York will have a quick turnaround as they host both Mt. St. Vincent and Cooper Union, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Saturday.
