NEW YORK, NY— The York College softball team dropped a pair of games to Hunter College, losing by scores of 9-1 and 14-0 respectively in a CUNY Athletic Conference contest Wednesday afternoon.  The Lady Cardinals were held to two just two hits combined by Hawks pitching.

 

Game One Recap

The Hawks got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first.  Stephanie Alves led the game off with a home run to open the scoring.   The Hawks showcased more power in the second inning, connecting on another home run—a two-run blast off the bat of Megan McKenna. 

 

York scored its only run of the game in the fourth inning, when Thessaly Belizario—the reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Week—singled home Joviette Frederick, who had walked to start the inning. 

 

Stephanie Damroth earned the win for the Hawks, going five innings, while allowing just one hit and striking out ten batters. 

 

Game Two Recap

It was all Hunter from the start of game two.  The Hawks put up four runs in the first inning and five in the second to put the game out of reach early.   Alves had another big game at the plate, going 4-4 with another home run and a triple.  Lauren Stensland went five innings for Hunter, allowing just one hit and striking out four.

 

York's lone hit of the game came off the bat of Brittany Patalano. She singled to start the top of the second inning.

 

With the loss, York drops to 6-20, 2-9 in the CUNYAC, while Hunter College improves 16-14, 10-4 CUNYAC.
