QUEENS VILLAGE, NY— The York College softball team picked up its first two wins of the season, defeating Sarah Lawrence College 12-8 and 10-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Game One Recap

The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a pair of throwing errors by the catcher and a sacrifice fly by Laura Ulloa.  Sarah Lawrence rallied to tie the game, however, scoring two in the second and two in third to even the score at 4-4. In the bottom of the third, York once again benefited from two more throwing errors by the Sarah Lawrence catcher, scoring two runs on wild throws on pick-off attempts.

In the top of the fifth, Sarah Lawrence took its first lead, striking for three runs to take a 7-6 advantage.  However, York would come up big in the bottom half of the inning, plating six runs to take a 12-7 lead.  All six runs came with two outs.  With runners on second and third, Joviette Frederick singled home a runner for the first run of the inning.  With Geneva Faulk batting, Frederick and Shanay Patalano successfully executed a double steal from first and third to take an 8-7 lead.  Faulk and Brittany Patalano then blasted back-to-back triples to make it 10-7. York would add two more runs in the inning to take a comfortable five-run lead.

Brittany Patalano went 2-4 with two RBI's and two runs and Shanay Patalano was 2-3 with two runs.  Frederick, Faulk, Thessaly Belizario and Chiquita Greene each plated two runs apiece in the win.
