Men’s Volleyball Rallies Past CCNY in CUNYAC Quarterfinals

JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's volleyball team rallied after dropping the first set and went on to defeat the City College of New York, 3-1, (24-30, 30-27, 30-28, 30-19) in the quarterfinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference quarterfinals.
CCNY, the fifth seed in the tournament, looked to have an upset in the making after taking the first set and then jumping out to an 19-13 lead in the second set. The Cardinals rallied from that point and eventually evened up the scored at 24-24 after a CCNY attack error. York would eventually take the second and third sets by narrow margins, before pulling away in the fourth set.
York was led by Bryan Williams and Brian Francisco who each slammed 13 kills. Aruni Piantini recorded a match-high 40 assists and Arturo Cabrera Jr. banged eight kills and had team-high 11 digs.
CCNY's Nick Siriban recorded a match-high 17 kills and Matthew Ng finished with 14 kills. Setter Jonathan Aguirre had 37 assists and 11 digs. CCNY finishes its season with a record of 11-16.
York (14-18) now moves on to the CUNYAC semi-finals and will take on top-seeded Baruch College.
