William Paterson Upends Lady Cardinals
Box Score
William Paterson University proved to be too much for the York College women's basketball team Tuesday evening, as the Pioneers defeated the Lady Cardinals by a score of 81-39 in a non-conference contest.
York shot just 34 percent for the game and was out-rebounded by a 41-22 margin, which was a combination that was too difficult to overcome. The strong defense from the Pioneers stifled York's offense and minimized its second chance opportunities throughout the game.
Meanwhile, WPU was red hot from the field all night, shooting 51 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range. April Smith had a big game for the Pioneers scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. BriAnna Lucas also played well, scoring 21 points and handing out five assists
York got strong contributions from junior Kadisha Wickham, who finished with 12 points, three steals and two blocks. Shadae Rice paced York with eight points. Shayna Smith led York with six rebounds.
With the loss, York drops to 2-3 on the season, while William Paterson improves to 4-0. The Lady Cardinals will look to rebound next Tuesday when they open up conference-play with a tilt against City Tech on the road. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
