Women’s Basketball Cruises to Win over New Rochelle

JAMAICA, NY— The York College women's basketball team was dominant in its home opener Wednesday evening, defeating the College of New Rochelle by a score of 81-16.

The game was never in doubt for York as they jumped out to a 12-0 advantage to start the game.   Later in the half, York went on a 16-0 run that spanned through part of the second half as well.  The Lady Cardinals held New Rochelle without a basket for more than ten minutes of play during the run. 

The Lady Cardinals dominated every statistical category.  York forced 36 turnovers, with 29 coming on steals and held the Blue Angels to just 17 percent shooting.  On offense, York shot 50 percent for the game and out-rebounded New Rochelle by a 47-25 margin.

Shadae Rice led the way for York, netting 17 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out six assists.  Kadisha Wickham finished with 15 points and five steals in just 16 minutes of action.  Niya Jarvis grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, while Maimouna Dabo finished with eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals.  Elizabeth Padilla paced York with 12 points. 

 

York, 1-1, will face Gettysburg at the Frostburg State Tournament in Frostburg, MD on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
