Cardinals Top Purchase and Yeshiva in Tri-Match

NEW YORK, NY— The York College men's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Sunday afternoon, defeating both Yeshiva University and Purchase College. The Cardinals won a hard-fought, five-set match in the opening contest against Yeshiva, winning 3-2 (30-24, 27-30, 30-20, 27-30, 17-15) and then swept away Purchase College 3-0 (30-22, 30-18, 30-17).

The two teams split the first four sets, forcing a deciding fifth set, where the Cardinals narrowly came out on top. Brian Francisco finished with a 15 kills, while also serving up 13 aces and digging 18 balls. Arturo Cabrera Jr. recorded a team-high 16 kills, while Bryan Williams added 13 kills. Alex Niles finished with seven kills and Aruni Piantini had a match-high 36 assists.

The Cardinals had little trouble disposing of Purchase in the second game of the day. Francisco and Cabrera each picked up a team-best six kills, while Bryan Williams added four. Piantini and Kenan Kajtesovic each had ten assists in the victory.
The Cardinals improve to 2-1 and will host Cooper Union and Albertus Magnus on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
