York Closes Season with Loss to New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY— The York College softball team saw its 2009 season come to an end with a 16-7 defeat to the College of New Rochelle.  Game Two was suspended due to darkness with the scored tied 7-7. 

 

York plated runs in the first and second innings on a RBI single by Geneva Faulk and a groundout by Meriem Alahiane and were tied at 2-2 going into the bottom of the second.  However, the game got away from the Lady Cardinals at that point as they allowed six runs to score in the bottom of the second and five in the third.  New Rochelle had three, two-RBI hits in the in the second to pull away.

 

York did respond with three in the fourth thanks to a pair of pass balls that brought in runs and a run-scoring single by Brittany Patalano.  It would not be enough, however, as New Rochelle continued to pour on the runs and finished off York in five frames. 

 

Despire the loss, Shanay Patalano turned in a solid day at the plate going 2-3 with two runs scored, while Faulk was 2-3 with a run and an RBI. 

 

With the loss, York finishes its season with a record of 2-22.
