JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's volleyball team struggled in a non-conference match against New Jersey City University Wednesday, losing 3-0 (30-22, 30-19, 30-25) to fall to 2-4 on the season.

Attack errors undid the Cardinals as they had 26 miscues compared to just 20 kills.  Despite the errors, York kept it close in each set.  However, the Gothic Knights pulled away late in each of the three sets.  In the first set, York was tied 16-16 but the Cardinals were held to just six points the rest of the way.  In the second set, York was tied 17-17, but the Gothic Knights outscored the Cardinals 13-2 after that to take the set.   The same could be said for the third, as York was within three points, at 26-23, but could not mount a rally.

Despite the loss, Alex Niles led York with five kills and three blocks . Aruni Piantini led the Cardinals with 15 assists.

Marley Pena-Guzman led the Gothic-Knights (5-1) with a match-high 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .476.  Setter Jorge Rodriguez had 35 assists.

York will host a CUNYAC multi-match on Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m.
