BRONX, NY – In what has been a recurring theme, the York College men's volleyball team dropped a match by the narrowest of margins Tuesday evening. The Cardinals fell to Lehman College 3-1 (30-28, 30-22, 28-30, 32-30). Three of the four sets were decided by two points.
With York trailing two sets to none, the Cardinals battled in the third set. The third set was extremely close with neither team holding more than a two-point advantage at any time. With York leading 29-28, a bad set by Lehman's Raul Santana gave the Cardinals the set.
The fourth set was almost as close as the third. York had a match point at 30-29, but an attack error on the Cardinals evened up the score. Lehman then got a kill from Jonathan Cruz and an ace from Matt De Tiberiis to clinch the match.
Despite the loss, York received a match-high 15 kills from both Brian Francisco and Roger Subervi. Aruni Piantini also aided York with a match and season-high 39 assists. Jeff Walcott along with Francisco led York with ten digs apiece.
For the Lightning, Joseph Bodden had a team-high 13 kills. Nate Martin added 11 kills, while Cruz had ten kills and three aces.
With the loss, York falls to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC). Lehman improves to 2-5, 1-3 in the CUNYAC.
