Cardinals Drop Tight Game to Purchase College

JAMAICA, NY --- In a game that saw three sets decided by just two points, the York College men's volleyball team fell to Purchase College 3-1 (30-23, 29-31, 31-29, 30-28) in a non-conference match Monday afternoon. 

 

The Cardinals found themselves down a set and trailing 29-24 in the second set.  However, York rolled off seven consecutive points, thanks in part to six attack errors by Purchase, to even up the match.

 

In set number three, York once again held off a set point, 29-28, to tie it up but Purchase held off York and recorded the final two points to take the third set.

 

The final set was just as close as the previous two.  The score was tied at 27-27 but the Panthers scored two of the final three points to take the set and the match.

 

For York, Alex Niles led the team with nine kills and four solo blocks, while Brian Francisco and Jeff Walcott each had eight kills apiece.  Francisco along with Niles also led the team in digs with eight.  #Aruni Piantini# had 24 assist at setter.

 

Dan Grabowski-Clark recorded a match-high 12 kills and Chris Shank had a match-high 32 assists to lead the Panthers who improved to 2-0 with the win.

 

York falls to 1-2 and will host Polytechnic on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
