JAMAICA, NY— The York College men's volleyball team opened its season Sunday afternoon, splitting a pair of matches. The Cardinals fell to Yeshiva 3-1 (23-30, 30-24, 30-19, 30-22) in the first game but rebounded to defeat Cooper Union 3-0 (30-18, 30-23, 30-19).

York looked strong early on, capturing the first set 30-23 but Yeshiva rebounded to win the next three games and take the match.
Yeshiva's David Kehana recorded a match-high 21 kills and Joseph Bajtner had 37 assists to lead the team.
For York, Brian Francisco led the Cardinals with 15 kills and a .480 hitting percentage. Roger Subervi added 12 kills and Alex Niles had 12 kills. Aruni Piantini led the team with nine digs and 38 assists.

York trailed only once during the game; at 1-0 in the third set as they cruised to an easy win. Subervi and Francisco each led York with 12 kills, while Piantini finished with 33 assists. Jeff Walcott digged a team-high six balls and Niles added seven kills and four digs.
York (1-1) will have a quick turnaround as they host SUNY Purchase on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
