@yorkcardinals Softball celebrates 2026 Senior Class against John Jay

York College travels Tuesday (Apr. 28) for a non-conference road battle against St. Joseph’s University (L.I.)

BELLEROSE, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball (2-15, 0-6 CUNYAC) took home field Friday afternoon for a CUNYAC matchup against the John Jay College Bloodhounds (13-20, 6-2 CUNYAC), falling 30-0 in game one and 28-1 in the second leg from Padavan-Preller Fields.

Before the first pitch, Amaniya Aiken (2025-26), Madison Plaza (2023-26), and Mulazia Woods (2025-26) were honored for their effort and dedication to York College Athletics at the annual Senior Day celebration.

Game 1: John Jay 30, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • John Jay raced out of the gates with a 13-run first frame. The Bloodhounds sent 17 hitters up to bat, recording six hits, six walks, four stolen bases, and a trio of hit by pitches. Sidney Bankston got the early big knock off starting pitcher Mulazia Woods (L, 0-2; 0.1 IP, 3 H, 8 R (7 ER), 4 BB), as her three-run triple pushed the lead to 5-0. Following four free passes and a single, Alyssa Cadolino's two-RBI double extended the advantage to 10. A pair of hit batsmen and an RBI base knock from Adrianna Barragan ended the first-inning scoring spree.
  • Bloodhound starter Lindsey Ogden (W, 8-10; 5 IP, H, 12 SO) struck out the side in the bottom of the first.
  • Kendal Bryant's (2-for-3, 3 BB, 5 R, 6 RBI) three-RBI triple was the main cog in John Jay's four-run second inning to make the score 17-0.
  • Utilizing five walks, a pair of singles, and a hit by pitch, the Bloodhounds tacked on four more in the third stanza to increase the edge to 21.
  • With the bases loaded, Natalie Graham's (4-for-4, 3 R, 6 RBI) two-run double brought home another two runs in the fourth inning. Her extra-base knock was part of a five-run stretch, giving John Jay a 26-0 margin.
  • In the home half of the fourth, Madison Plaza (1-for-2) produced York's first hit of the game with a single. The Cardinals ended up getting runners on second and third with two outs before Ogden punched out Jaylene Riley to end the rally.
  • A pair of singles, walks, and fielding errors facilitated a Bloodhound four-spot in the fifth inning, closing the book at 30 runs.
  • Ogden retired the side in order in the fifth to seal the 30-0 result.
Game 2: John Jay 28, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • On the strength of two walks, a single, a ground out, and a wild pitch, John Jay totaled two first-inning runs.
  • Samantha Panameno (1-for-2) and Plaza (1-for-1, BB) both reach base for York against starter Adrianna Barragan (W, 2-4; 5 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 4 SO) in the bottom of the frame. However, they were subsequently erased on consecutive caught stealing throws.
  • The Bloodhounds teed off in the following stanza, sending 14 hitters to the dish and scoring 10 runs. In a stretch that included five hits, four errors, and three walks, Cadolino's 2-RBI single and a two-run double by Kayla Sauers were the big producers.
  • Cardinal pitcher Melina Abreu (L, 1-5; 5 IP, 16 H, 28 R (10 ER), 12 BB) held John Jay relatively in check in the third, only allowing one run from a pair of singles and a groundout.
  • John Jay added two runs in the fourth to make it 13-0.
  • Plaza reached base for a second time, singling to right in the home half of the frame. Following her single, she was caught stealing for the second time, stopping a potential rally.
  • Adding on extra runs, the Bloodhounds plated 13 more in the fifth stanza. Consecutive doubles from Graham (4-for-4, 2 BB, 4 R) and Natalie Polanco (4-for-5, 3 R, 3 RBI) made it 20-0. A trio of walks and errors got the score up to 25. Another Graham extra-base hit, this time a three-run triple, capped off John Jay's 28-run contest.
  • Leading off in the fifth, Abreu (1-for-2, R) smacked a triple over the left fielder's head. Abreu later scored York's sole run of the game off a wild pitch, settling the 28-1 score.
