BRONX, NYÂ ---Â (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College softball battled the Lehman College Lightning (4-23, 2-8 CUNYAC) Friday afternoon at South Field, falling 15-0 in a non-conference matchup before 14-0 and 13-2 defeats in CUNYAC play.
Game 1: Lehman 15, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- York starter Simranjit Kaur (L, 0-6: 5 IP. 8 H, 12 ER, 9 BB, 3 SO) tossed a clean opening frame, inducing an inning-ending groundout to strand runners in scoring position.
- Lehman broke through for seven runs in the top of the second, capitalizing on three hits, two hit-by-pitches, and three walks. The rally was sparked by a bases-loaded walk that brought in the first run, followed by a wild pitch to extend the lead. Run scoring singles from Nicolle Swierczek (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B) and Miley Estrella pushed the advantage to 5-0, before two additional runs scored on a catching error to cap the inning.
- Amaniya Aiken (1-for-2, SB) roped a two-out single in the second to put York in the hit column and stole second, but Damaris Adames (W, 1-15: 5 IP, 2 H, 11 SO) ended the threat with a strikeout.
- Swierczek fueled the third-inning rally with a bunt that landed her on second, setting up runners in scoring position with two outs before a wild pitch and a dropped third strike extended the lead to nine.
- The Cardinals mounted another two-out rally as Samantha Panameno (1-for-2, SB) singled and stole second, but Adames escaped the third with a strikeout.
- Lehman scored three more runs in consecutive at-bats, beginning with a wild pitch that brought in the first run, followed by a run-scoring sacrifice hit and an RBI single from Leilani Tejada. Kaur then tied a career high with her third strikeout to end the fourth.
- Zenaya Ortiz (2-for-2, 3 R, 2 RBI, 3 SB) got Lehman's fifth inning going with an RBI single, stole second, and scored on a fielding error in the next at-bat. Adames (0-for-2, 2 R, 2 BB) then settled the scoring by crossing home plate on a wild pitch.
Game 2: Lehman 14, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- Madison Plaza (1-for-2, SB) created York's first opportunity, singling, advancing to second on an error, and stealing third in the first inning. Pitching once again, Adames (W, 2-15; 5 IP, 2 H, 9 SO) induced a strikeout to keep the game scoreless.Â
- A string of hits by Patty Sanchez (4-for-4, 4 R, RBI), Swierczek, and Ortiz (1-for-2, 2 RBI) off Cardinal starter Melina Abreu (L, 1-6; 4 IP, 9 ER, 8 H, 8 BB, 4 SO) plated the first run in the bottom of the stanza. With the bases loaded, a Sky Rodriguez (RBI, 2 BB) walk gave Lehman a 2-0 edge. The Lightning added two more runs off a wild pitch and a steal of home.Â
- Sanchez led off the home half of the second with a triple to right-center and subsequently scored off a wild pitch. Abreu worked out of further trouble, stranding two runners in scoring position.
- Lehman broke the game open in the third inning, generating five runs off three hits, one walk, one hit by pitch, and six stolen bases. Adames got the ball rolling, reaching on a hit by pitch and advancing to third with two steals. The big producers were RBI base knocks from Lanaiyah Henriquez (2 R, 2 RBI), Sanchez, and Tejada.
- Jaymie Mateo (1-for-2, 2 SB) generated another potential Cardinal rally, singling to shortstop and stealing a pair of bases. Yet, like the other rallies, Adames ended a possible rally with a strikeout.
- Sanchez's triple to left wrapped up a four-run fourth for the Lightning to wrap up the 14-0 scoreline.
Game 3: Lehman 13, York 2 (5 Inn.)
- Pitching her third-consecutive game, Adames (W, 3-15; 5 IP, 4 H, ER, 4 BB, 9 SO) stranded a leadoff walk by Panameno and a Plaza (2-for-3, R) single.Â
- Alyssa De La Rosa (L, 0-2; 4 IP, 5 H, 12 ER, 8 BB, SO) matched a scoreless first by Adames to keep the tie intact.Â
- Faith Howes (BB, SB) drew a walk and a Madison Keir (1-for-2) single got runners in scoring position with two outs in the top of the second before a strikeout ended the threat.Â
- Lehman scored five runs in the home half of the stanza, capped off by a Sanchez (2-for-4, 2 R, 4 RBI) inside-the-park grand slam.
- York broke through in the third to get on the board.  Plaza laced a double down the right field line, and scored in the next at bat when Mateo (1-for-2, BB, RBI, SB) singled her home.Â
- The Lightning made it 6-1 in the next half inning after a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
- York put the pressure on in the fourth with a De La Rosa walk to lead off, and a fielder's choice put her in scoring position with Howes aboard, but York stranded both after three straight strikeouts.
- A three run triple by Henriquez was the big spark in Lehman's seven-run fourth, extending the advantage to 12 (13-1).Â
- With one out, Mateo worked a walk, swept second and advanced to third on an error, followed by a throwing miscue closed the scoring in the fifth for York's second run.
