Jonte Wallace was recognized Monday by the CUNYAC as the Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games played Feb. 2-8. This award is the freshman's fourth consecutive CUNYAC Rookie distinction, and his fifth of the campaign. Wallace now joins
Aidony Nivar (2023-24) and Omari Phipps (2024-25) as five-time conference Rookie of the Week selections.
Keeping his double-digit scoring streak alive, he averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game last week. Defeating Hunter College 84-66, the rookie poured home 22 points (8-of-16, 3-of-4 3FG, 3-of-4 FT), nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals. The six assists and three triples were a career high. Against league leaders Lehman College, Wallace delivered a team-best 13 points (6-of-12 FG) and added four rebounds and three assists.
Through 18 games, the forward is averaging 13.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. In conference action, he has elevated his scoring output to a team-best 16.0 points per game. Compared to other CUNYAC players, the Brooklyn native ranks top-10 in scoring (6th), rebounding (9th), and steals (3rd).
