Amaniya Aiken was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MWBA) as a Women's Basketball Divisions II/III Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection for games played Jan. 19-25. This weekly laurel is Aiken's first as a Cardinal.
Contributing in multiple phases for York, the senior averaged 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.5 steals per game last week. In a home matchup against Brooklyn College, she dropped 20 points (9-of-20 FG) to go along with four rebounds and four steals. Facing John Jay College (Jan. 24), the forward recorded her third double-double of the season, totaling 22 points, grabbing 13 rebounds, and poking the ball away seven times.
In 12 games this year, she is averaging a team-high 13.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 1.9 assists per contest. Among CUNYAC players, she is among the top-10 in scoring (5th) and steals (5th).
