NEW YORK, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College's
Stephanie Gonzalez was selected Monday as the CUNYAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week Honorable Mention for matches played Sept. 15-21. This is the freshman's second consecutive CUNYAC weekly laurel, becoming the first player in program history to earn two conference weekly awards in a single season.
In a Player of the Year type performance against the University of Valley Forge Patriots (Sept. 20), Gonzalez scored directly from a corner to give York a 1-0 first-half lead, and assisted
Emma Kolenovic for the game winner in the 73rd minute. Besides the goal contributions, Gonzalez finished with 14 shots (seven on target), and was constantly weaving past Patriot defenders in order to keep the Cardinal defense rested as they closed out the 2-1 victory.
Over four matches, the Brooklyn native is leading the team in points (5), goals (2), shots (20), and shots on target (11). In the CUNYAC hierarchy, she tops the charts in shots and shots on goal, and places second in goals per game (1.25).
