York College Softball garnered CUNYAC laurels as Michelle Mancuso took home Player of the Week while Jeana Clemons claimed the top rookie honor

FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) Following a season-opening sweep, York College softball claimed a pair of laurels Monday when the CUNYAC announced its softball weekly awards for games played Mar. 3-9. Michelle Mancuso picked up Player of the Week, while Jeana Clemons was tagged Rookie of the Week.

This announcement was the second time in two seasons (March 11-17 reporting period) that York softball received two weekly awards, as Sofia Soric and Remedios Garcia were cited for their performances.

Dominating at the plate, Mancuso went 4-for-6 with eight RBI, seven runs, four walks, and three stolen bases in a sweep against Yeshiva University (Mar. 6). In a 27-11 first-leg victory, the sophomore connected on a grand slam to facilitate York's 11-run second inning. She also recorded a sacrifice fly and an RBI single in the contest. In game two, Mancuso contributed an RBI single, an RBI walk, two stolen bases, and crossed the plate four times. Additionally, Mancuso caught both of York's triumphs, maintaining a 1.000 fielding percentage and tallying nine putouts. Per the CUNYAC hierarchy, she paces the conference in RBI, slugging percentage (1.167), and OPS (1.894), and is tied for first in batting average (.667) and stolen bases.

Debuting for the Cardinals, Clemons smacked four hits, walked five times, scored six runs, and contributed four RBI in the Maccabee twinbill. The rookie went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and three runs in game one and totaled three walks, one run, and three steals in the 20-11 second-leg decision. Playing the demanding shortstop position, she tallied three assists with a 1.000 fielding percentage. Overall, the Buffalo native is level with Mancuso in batting average (.667) and ranks highly in OBP (.818, 2nd), slugging % (.833, 3rd), OPS (1.651, 2nd), walks (4th), and runs scored (7th).
