@yorkcardinals’ Barrett secures CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year and All-Star status; Singh receives Sportsmanship recognition

York College’s Brandon Barrett takes home CUNYAC Rookie of the Year and All-Star honors, and Rohan Singh lands on Sportsmanship Team

FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball received three honors Thursday, as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its 2025 All-Star Team awards. Freshman Brandon Barrett claimed CUNYAC Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-Star Second Team. Senior captain Rohan Singh received a Sportsmanship Team distinction.

Hailing from Queens, Barrett averaged 13.5 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting 47.7 percent (126-of-264) from the floor on his way to Rookie of the Year honors and a spot on the CUNYAC All-Star Second Team Among Cardinal teammates, the big man leads the team in rebounds, blocks, and field goal shooting, and ranks second in scoring and third in assists. Scoring 20+ points in four games, gathering 15+ rebounds in seven contests, and recording 12 double-doubles, Barrett earned four CUNYAC Rookie of the Week laurels and one MBWA Divisions II-III Honorable Mention Selection.

According to the CUNYAC hierarchy, he ranks first in rebounds, second in blocks, and 13th in points per game on the conference's third-best field goal efficiency. In comparison to other Division III players, the paint beast places highly in rebounds per game (10th), defensive rebounds per game (8.50, 9th), double-doubles (T-16th), and blocks per game (36th). Barrett follows Aidony Nivar (2023-) and Devine Chisholm (2018-20, 21-23) as CUNYAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year winners over the past six campaigns. On the All-Star side, Barrett becomes the eighth Cardinal to be voted as a top CUNYAC player during that time frame.

Singh gave it his all in his final campaign with the Cardinals, consistently displaying a great presence during practice and gameday, and suiting up for all 23 contests. Playing an important part in York's offensive attack, he paced the team in assists and canned 31 triples. With a 20-point effort in the season-finale at Hunter College (Feb. 17), the guard reached the 1,000-point plateau for his career.

"Rohan dignifies what sportsmanship & leadership looks like from a student athlete. He is mature, confident and respectful. As a two year captain, Rohan has set the precedent for his successor"-Head Coach Clarence Emengo
