FLUSHING, NY — York College women's outdoor track & field claimed six honors Monday as
Katryna Francois,
Imani Gibson,
Keanna Clouden, and
Peta-Gay Hunter were recognized when the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced its 2024 All-Star awards. Francois earned the Track Athlete of the Year Award and All-Star status in three meets. Gibson, Clouden, and Hunter all made the All-Star squad, and Clouden was selected to the Sportsmanship Team.
Francois participated in seven outdoor meets, consistently placing in the top 10 in the 100, 200, and 400-meter events. Per the 2024 CUNYAC Outdoor Performance List, the rookie had top-3 results in the 100-meter (13.52, 3rd), 200-meter (27.57, 2nd), and 400-meter (1:04.15, 1st) categories. Smoking the competition in the CUNYAC season finale, Francois picked up first-place medals in the 200 and 400-meter dashes while finishing third in the 100-meter sprint. Additionally, she was the catalyst for the Cardinals to accumulate 8 points in the 4x400-meter relay (5:05.83, 2nd place) and 6 points 4x100-meter relay (56.44, 3rd place).
Specializing in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and long jump, Gibson recorded a hat trick of top-10 finishes in those events. According to the CUNYAC Performance List, the rookie placed seventh in the 100-meter sprint (14.13), and 10th in the 200-meter dash (30:01) and the long jump (4.18 meters). Her seventh-place finish in the 100-meter finals was a career-high, and Gibson was also part of the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams that garnered 14 championship points.
At the CUNYAC Championships, Clouden had career-best times in the 100-meter dash (15.31) and the javelin throw (10.20). Additionally, she also helped the Cardinals medal in the 4x100 and the 4x400-meter relays. Individually, those times were good enough for 24th and 20th in the CUNYAC hierarchy respectively. In the seven other meets, the Brooklyn native landed on the Outdoor Performance List in the 200-meter (22nd), 400-meter (24th), and 1,500-meter categories (13th) as well. In addition to her improvements on the track, Clouden is a fantastic representative of the Cardinal track & field program.
"Keanna always congratulates her teammates and competitors. She cheers for everyone and every team and she takes and gives advice to other newcomers she has met at track meets."-Coach Kiechen Smith
A participant in seven outdoor meets, Hunter maintained top-20 CUNYAC finishes in the 1,500-meter race (15th) and the long jump (19th). At the CUNYAC finale, the senior earned her first-career all-star appearance as she was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that accumulated eight championship points.
