FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball guard Aidony Nivar was recognized Monday with the Rookie of the Week award as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its weekly awards for games played February 12-18. With this laurel, Nivar claimed his program-record seventh CUNYAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week selection in 13 weeks. 

Competing hard last week for the Cardinals, Nivar averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 46.4 percent (13-of-28), from the field, 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from 3-point range and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free-throw line in two close encounters. Playing 40 minutes in a 101-97 overtime home defeat versus Hunter College (Feb. 14), Nivar totaled a career-high 30 points (11-of-18 FG, 5-of-9 3FG, 3-of-3 FT) and grabbed six rebounds. Facing the long Lehman College in a CUNYAC first-round matchup (Feb. 17), Nivar produced 12 points (7-of-9 FT), a game-high five steals, and four assists. 

In 25 games, the 7x CUNYAC Rookie of the Week averaged 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 42.1 percent (109-of-262) from the floor and a scorching 37.6 percent (65-of-173) from 3-point distance on 6.9 attempts per game. 

Among York players, Nivar leads the team in steals and 3-point shooting, while placing second in scoring, third in rebounding, and fourth in assists. In the CUNYAC hierarchy, the Dominican Republic native is fourth in steals, ninth in points, and 22nd in assists per game. Meanwhile, the guard ranks fourth in the conference in downtown shooting and 56th among all Division III players.
