@yorkcardinals' Wright lands on CUNYAC Softball Sportsmanship Team

Andrea Wright is York College’s sixth CUNYAC Sportsmanship honoree in as many seasons

FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College sophomore Andrea Wright was recognized Tuesday by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) as the league announced its 2023 Softball year-end awards.

Wright earned a spot as a CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team selection for the first time in her career.  She was a constant in her second season at York, starting in all 24 of the Cardinals' games in 2023. On the field, Wright played mainly as catcher, commanding the strike zone and putting her body on the line. Additionally, the Brooklyn native was third on the team with 10 stolen bases and totaled a season-high three RBI in the second game of a road doubleheader against Yeshiva University (Mar. 19).

With Wright's CUNYAC Sportsmanship honor, York has now generated Sportsmanship recognition for the sixth-consecutive season.

"Andrea has been invaluable to our softball program. She is the mentor and tutor for the team. Always the first one at practice and normally remains afterward and encourages others to do additional work or just her alone. Additionally, She has changed her work schedule to accommodate team practice schedules many times.
