www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's basketball is primed to take the court Saturday (Feb. 18) as the No. 4 seed in a return to CUNYAC Championship play for the second-consecutive season. The Cardinals (8-17) will host a first-round matchup against the No. 5 Hunter College Hawks (9-15) at 2 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium.
The two teams split the season series as York claimed a 121-115 victory on January 18 at Hunter, while the Hawks took a 94-88 decision on February 10 in Jamaica. The Cardinals put together a 8-17 record in the league season and enter Saturday as winners of three of their last four at home. This will be the first time York and Hunter meet in the postseason since the 2010 semifinals.
Finishing 7-7 in the league standings, York split the final four games of the regular season. Over the last 10 CUNYAC games, the Cardinals went 5-5, with their largest margin of victory being 26.
Terrell Fullerton spearheads York's offense, as the two-time CUNYAC Player of the Week selection averages 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. Fullerton is among the conference top-three in points per game (3rd) and assists per game (3rd). Down low,
Olawale Kila is recording 13.0 points and 9.9 rebounds while shooting a stout 47.7 percent from the field.
Micaiah Goosby contributes to the frontcourt success, totaling 12.0 points and 6.5 boards in just 22.7 minutes per contest.
Devine Chisholm (10.9 points),
Tavon Price (8.9 points) and
Matthew Trepeta (8.6 points) round out York's scoring at the guard positions. Trepeta leads the Cardinals in 3-point shooting at 37.4 percent.
York's offense ranks in the CUNYAC's top-four in points per game (4th, 74.8), field goal percentage (3rd, 42.1), 3-point field goal percentage (4th, 31.0) and assist/turnover ratio (2nd, 1.0). For all Division III programs, the Cardinals place 57th in assists per game with 15.8.
The winner of Saturday's first-round tilt will play again Tuesday (Feb. 21) in the CUNYAC semifinals against the top-seeded Baruch College Bearcats (20-5). From there, the title game will be hosted by CCNY next Friday (Feb. 24) at 8:30 p.m. inside Nat Holman Gymnasium.
