Aidony Nivar was recognized Tuesday, as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its weekly awards for games played November 20-26. With this honor, Nivar becomes the Cardinals' first two-time men's basketball Rookie of the Week selection since Donald Hartley Jr. claimed three in the 2019-20 campaign.
In the Cardinals' lone game of the week, Nivar paced the team in scoring with 12 points (5-of-11 FG) and recorded two steals and two assists against SUNY Maritime (Nov. 21). Nivar was one of two Cardinals in double figures.
In five games this season, the rookie has averaged 13.4 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game, and 2.4 steals a night. Shooting-wise, the Dominican native is connecting on 43.9 percent (25-of-57) of his shots and a team-leading 36.6 percent (15-of-41) from beyond the arc.
Among CUNYAC players, he ranks second in steals and 3-point field goals made per game (3.0), fifth in three-point percentage, eighth in field goal percentage, and ninth in scoring. In the latest NCAA Division III Statistical Rankings Summary, Nivar ranks among the national leaders in 3-point field goals made per game (38th), 3-point field-goals made (65th, 15), steals per game (86th) and steals (99th, 12).
