FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's soccer was recognized Thursday by the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) as the league announced its year-end awards.

Hailing from Astoria, New York, Gema Guillen was named to the 2023 CUNYAC Women's Soccer Sportsmanship Team. 

"I am glad to be recognized with this as it honor shows that I care for my teammates and continue to build relationships" - said Guillen

Guillen has been a consistent force for the Cardinals in 2023. Taking on the Captain's armband, she has started in 10 matches and played 846 minutes, going the full 90 minutes for seven contests. Guillen is a tireless worker in the middle of the park, stifling many attacks and facilitating York's transition opportunities. 

"Gema has had a positive impact on the team by earning their trust and confidence on and off the field. She has earned the Captain title through her mentorship, support and encouragement of her teammates. Gema has persevered through her own challenges, including injury, to be there for every match and to work tirelessly on the field."-stated head coach Winston Willabus
