Olawale Kila was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II-III Weekly Honor Roll selections for games played December 12-18.
Leading the Cardinals in scoring twice over the last three games, Kila averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks per contest while shooting 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the field and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the free-throw line in a 1-1 week for York. Kila paced York to an 83-70 non-conference home win over United States Merchant Marine Academy (Dec. 12), producing career-highs of 23 points (9-of-14 FG, 5-of-7 FT), four steals, three assists, and two blocked shots. Kila followed with 16 points (7-of-12 FG), six rebounds, and one steal in a 94-66 loss in York's non-conference finale at Drew University (Dec. 17).
Through 12 games, Kila is averaging 11.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 blocks and 0.8 steals. Kila has connected on 45 percent (58-of-129) from the field and 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the free-throw line.
Hailing from Lagos, Nigeria, Kila ranks among the CUNYAC leaders in rebounding (3rd), blocks (11th), minutes (11th, 30.9 p/game) and scoring (14th). His 17-rebound effort against Medgar Evers (Dec. 2) is tied for the third most among CUNYAC performances. Nationally, the forward is 123rd in rebounds and T-70th in double-doubles.
