www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's soccer held strong defensively for 89 minutes before a late goal pushed the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (1-11-1, 1-4-0 CUNYAC) to a 1-0 CUNYAC win Wednesday evening from Brooklyn College Field.
York broke into the shot column in the 11th minute with an attempt by Emre Sahin that sailed wide. Jordi Hernandez replied for Brooklyn in the 14th minute with the first of the Bulldogs' seven first-half shots on Cardinal netminder
Ricardo Dorcil (0-2-0). Limited to a pair of first-half attempts, the Cardinals tested Brooklyn goalie Jason Martinez (1-1–0) in the 36th minute as
Stanley Sanchez launched York's first shot on target.
The Cardinals continued to knock on Brooklyn's door in the 57th minute when
Mert Zor shot low right.
Jamar Johnson added to York's shot total in the 80th minute, misfiring left of the goal. Sanchez then uncorked his second shot on goal of the evening at 89:13 but was turned away by Martinez. The match's only goal came with 19 seconds showing on the game clock, as Yasin Elsammak slotted home a pass from Alexander Mishiyev. The effort was Elsammak's first-career goal.

Courtney Boothe was encouraged after the result.
"I was very happy with our defending. We challenged for every air ball, and pressed them on the ground. Overall, it was a very good performance."-he stated
York was tested defensively throughout the match as Brooklyn outplayed the Cardinals in shots (20-5), shots on goal (9-3), and corner kicks (7-0). Dorcil faced 20 shots and produced eight saves in net for York.
The Cardinals (1-6-0, 0-4-0 CUNYAC) line up for a CUNYAC showdown at home against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-14-0, 0-5-0 CUNYAC) on Saturday (Oct. 15) at 7:30 p.m from Aviator Field.
