Mert Zor was named the CUNYAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by league officials for games played November 29-December 5. The Rookie of the Week selection is the program's sixth since 2017-18.
In York's lone game of the week, Zor scored a career-high 14 points off the bench to contribute to the Cardinals' 72-63 CUNYAC home win against Medgar Evers College (Dec. 3). Zor shot 5-of-13 from the field and 2-of-5 from three-point territory to go along with seven rebounds (tied career-high) to help York secure its first conference-opening victory since the 2014-15 campaign.
In six games, Zor is averaging 6.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 46.4 percent shooting from the field (13-of-28) and 70.6 percent from the free-throw line (12-of-17).
Zor and the Cardinals (2-4, 1-0 CUNYAC) travel Tuesday (Dec. 7) for a non-conference matchup against New York University Violets (6-1) at 7 p.m. inside NYU Athletic Facility in Brooklyn.
