NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The York College men's and women's swim teams took on the College of New Rochelle and Queens College in a double dual meet Tuesday at New Rochelle, with the men taking home a victory against the College of New Rochelle.
Men's Swimming:
In the meet, the men fell to Queens College by a score of 85-58, however they were able to beat the College of New Rochelle by a score of 63-60 in order to secure Coach Oyola's first win as York College's newest swimming coach.
The meet against New Rochelle was sealed for the Cardinals in the last event after a stellar performance in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team of
Javier Velasquez,
Travis Rivera,
Justice McCain, and
Nicholas Bailey turned in a first-place finish over New Rochelle with a time of 1:53.12.
Velasquez also turned in a strong performance in a close men's 100-yard freestyle, securing a third-place finish in the event with a time of 1:00.87. York's
Joshua Clarke also scored in the event after a fifth-place finish and a time of 1:22.50.
Women's Swimming:
The women dropped both meets to New Rochelle and Queens College by scores of 128-45 and 106-59, respectively. Despite the losses, the York women turned in several impressive performances in the meet.
York would score early, taking a third-place finish against Queens College and a first-place finish over New Rochelle in the first event, the women's 200-yard medley relay. The relay team of
Mariela Rosario,
Shantusha Kanhai,
Romea Noel, and
Evelyn Del Rosario would finish with a time of 2:44.77, good for fourth overall in the event. The same relay team would take a second-place finish in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay against New Rochelle, securing a time of 2:22.92.
Kanhai would also record a strong performance in the women's 50-yard freestyle (26.86) and the women's 100-yard breaststroke (1:37.22), both good for fourth overall in each event.
Queens College vs. College of New Rochelle
As for the other results in Tuesday's double dual meet, on the men's side, Queens would top New Rochelle by a score of 87-43. The New Rochelle women would also fall to Queens, this time by a score of 97-84.
York College returns to action next Monday, November 21 at 6 pm with a CUNYAC meet against Brooklyn College at home.
