JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball has earned the #7 seed for the upcoming 2015 CUNYAC Women's Basketball Championship and will visit #2 Brooklyn College in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, February 21 at 1 p.m.
York finished the regular season with a record of 7-17, 4-12 CUNYAC, while Brooklyn was 18-6 overall and 14-2 in CUNYAC play. The Cardinals lost both meetings to Brooklyn College this year. They lost 75-64 on the road back on January 6 and 68-61 at home on February 3. However, in the game on February 3, York held a lead for most of the second half, until a late run by Brooklyn propelled the Bulldogs to a victory.
Tamika Taylor has led the Cardinals in scoring (16 ppg), rebounding (8.5 rpg) and assists (3.7 apg) since joining the team in December.
Angelika Ruggiano is 10th in the CUNYAC in scoring, averaging 13 ppg, while
Samantha Bond is 13th with a 12.6 scoring average.
Stayce Kay Muirhead is pulling down 8.1 boards per game and has 973 career rebounds. York will need to win a few games for her to get to 1,000 for her career.
Brooklyn's top player is Megan Campbell, who is averaging 14.5 points and 9.5 boards per game. Vanessa D'Ambrosi (12.7 ppg) and Nicole Francomano (11.1 ppg, 5.8 apg) are also key players.
