Women’s Soccer Opens Season with Loss to Old Westbury

BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The York College women's soccer team opened up the 2014 season on Tuesday evening, losing to the College at Old Westbury, 6-1.

The Panthers spoiled the first match for new York Head Coach Roberto Rivas.  They scored four goals in the first half and added two more in the second half.  Three players had a pair of goals each— Jordan Schildt, Stephanie Maybie and Alexis Radziul.  Three of the goals by the Panthers were as a result of York turnovers right in front of the goal, leading to easy scores.

The Cardinals did have something to cheer about towards the end of the match, as a foul in the goalie's box led to a penalty kick for York in the 73rd minute.  Sophomore Estefany Delgado converted the kick to put the Cardinals on the board.

Cardinals' keeper Kiara Libreros had a busy evening, facing 38 shots and making 14 saves.

York (0-1) will look for a better result on Thursday, when they host the College of Mt. St. Vincent at 6 p.m. at Aviator Field.
