Three-Point Shooting Barrage Helps York Top Lehman

JAMAICA, N.Y. - The York College men's basketball team defeated Lehman College in blowout fashion on Tuesday night, by a score of 79-53—due in large part to the combined 12 three-point field goals made by seniors
Michael Woods and
Donald Rodriguez.
York made their presence felt early, and looked like a team determined to go into the playoffs hot with their strong first half effort. York came out to a 20-13 start in the first 12 minutes, and closed the half outscoring Lehman 18-10.
Their 15-point first-half lead proved to be the result of a great team effort. Woods poured in 18 points, to go with two steals, and two assists, Rodriguez scored nine points—all of which came from 3-pt land— and
Du'Quan Lawson led the team in assists in the opening half, with five.
York would go up by as much as 27 points in the second half, thanks to a run sparked by two three-point baskets from
Michael Woods, one of which he converted into a four-point play after getting fouled, as well as another three point basket from Rodriguez .
Woods finished the evening with 34 points (7-12 from three-point range), three rebounds and four assists. It was the 13th time this season the second-leading scorer in the nation has eclipsed 30 points in a game.
Donald Rodriguez added 17 points (5-8 from three-point range), and
Jaron Williams finished with eight points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Lawson had six points and eight assists.
As a team, York shot 58 percent from three-point range and connected on 14 three's—their highest total of the season, by far.
This win improves York's record to 16-7 on the year (11-3 CUNYAC) and drops Lehman to 10-12 (5-9 CUNYAC). The Cardinals have now secured the #2 seed in next week's CUNYAC Tournament. York will host their quarterfinal game on February 22.
York's next game will be on the road, against Brooklyn College on Saturday, February 15
th, at 2:45 p.m.
