Men’s Basketball Wins Big Over CCNY

JAMAICA N.Y.—After a three-week layoff, the York College men's basketball team picked up right where it left off and dominated play against the City College of New York, defeating the Beavers, 94-72 on Tuesday night.
Led by the play of
Michael Woods and
Omar St. John, the Cardinals got off to a fast start and never looked back. York quickly got off to a13-4 lead with Woods netting eight of those points.
Following a timeout by CCNY, the Beavers quickly regrouped and went on a run of their own to close the gap to 19-16. However, York followed with a 19-0 run over a six-minute span to go up 38-16. St. John had 10 of those 19 points in the stretch, including a pair of emphatic dunks. CCNY could never recover from there and York cruised in the second half to earn the victory.
Woods finished with a game-high 27 points, while shooting 9-of-14 from the field. St. John netted 25 points with four assists and was nearly perfect from the field, making 11-of-12 shots.
Jaron Williams added a double-double with ten points and ten boards, while also blocking two shots.
The Beavers were led by Anthony Lewis, who had 20 points and 13 rebounds. CCNY falls to 2-7, 1-4 CUNYAC.
York has now won three straight and its record stands at 6-5 overall and 3-1 in CUNYAC play. The Cardinals will visit Hunter College on Friday at 7 p.m.
