BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, N.Y.- Despite playing some tough team defense throughout most of the first half, the York College Women's Basketball team lost to Baruch College Wednesday night, 80-30.
York would come out with a strong start, going up by three points in the opening minutes, following a big shot by
Nia Rene at 18:00. But Baruch would fight back, going up by as many as 11 points with less than five minutes left in the first half.
York was able to close that gap to seven points, due in large part to their defense, which held Baruch to 14-of-41 shooting in the opening half. However, Baruch was able to take over the game, going up by 17 points before the close of the first half.
In the second half, Baruch put the game away, outscoring York by 33 points, and shooting 53% from the field, while holding York to 4-of-18 shooting.
York College's
Danielle Dunn had a strong performance in the contest, leading the team with nine rebounds and three blocks, while scoring 11 points.
Nia Rene also scored 11 points, including a game high two three-point field-goals, to go along with five rebounds and one assist.
The bulk of Baruch's scoring came from their bench, which contributed to more than half of the team's total points in the game. Sheridan Taylor had a strong effort with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while teammate Alecia Ulmer came out with 10 points and five rebounds. It was truly a team effort for Baruch, with each player managing to score at least 1 point.
Baruch improves to 13-6 on the year, 9-2 CUNYAC, while York falls to 2-16,1-9 CUNYAC. York's next game will be at home on Friday, January 31st at 6pm against John Jay College.
