Women’s Basketball Tops Medgar Evers for First Conference Win

JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team picked up its first CUNYAC win of the season and they did it in dominating fashion, as the Cardinals topped Medgar Evers College, 71-40 on Wednesday night.
York was never really threatened in the contest as they jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back. The Cardinals defense stiled the Cougars offense, holding them to 23 percent shooting, while forcing 44 turnovers. The 44 turnovers forced were the second highest total of the year for York.
On offense, York got contributions from several people and had three players score in double figures.
Stayce Kay Muirhead recorded a double-double, with a team-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. Eight of the rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Angelika Ruggiano scored 13 points with four assists and four steals and
Shauncia McClendon finished with 11 points, three blocks and four steals.
Kiera Burns also had a nice game, with nine points, five assists and three steals.
With the win, York is now 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the CUNYAC. They will return to action tomorrow night when they visit the College of Mt. St. Vincent at 7 p.m.
