NEW YORK, N.Y.— The York College men's and women's swimming teams took on one of the top teams in the CUNY Athletic Conference in Baruch College and came out on the losing end, Monday night. The women lost, 83-53, while the men were defeated, 91-75.
For the women, sophomore Sandra Shamburger won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:13.24 but saw her dual meet win streak snapped at 16, when she came in second in the 50-meter freestyle (30.62), losing to Baruch's Julia Sung. The last time she lost a dual meet individual event was also against Baruch, last season.
Alfred Clark was the top swimmer for the men, as he placed second in two events—the 100-meter backstroke (1:19.64), and the 200-meter individual medley (2:52.83).
John Castillo added a second-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:18.99.
With the loss, the women are now 0-3, while the men are 1-2. The Cardinals will visit Brooklyn College on Friday night at 6 p.m
