Woods, St. John Lead York to Win over Lebanon Valley

ARLINGTON, V.A. – York College juniors Michael Woods and Omar St. John combined for 59 points to lead the Cardinals men's basketball team to an 87-71 victory over Lebanon Valley College in the consolation game of the 2013 Pablo Cato Tip-Off Tournament.
 
Woods recorded a game-high 35 points, while St. John finished 24 points.  Both were efficient on the night as Woods was 11-of-23 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range.  St. John shot 7-of-11 from the field and also grabbed eight rebounds.
 
In addition, Donald Rodriguez chipped in 11 points and Justin Garvin added nine, while Jaron Williams led the team with nine rebounds. 
 
After trailing by three at the half, the Cardinals came out in the second and dominated play, outscoring Lebanon Valley, 47-28.  The Cardinals shot 62 percent from the field in the second half, while holding LVC to 32 percent shooting.
 
With 8:53 to play and the Cardinals holding a narrow, 59-56 lead, York opened up a 17-7 run to go up 76-63 with 3:13 left.  Rodriguez and St. John came up big during the stretch, with St. John scoring seven points and Rodriguez adding five.  Lebanon Valley could not recover from there, as the Cardinals increased its lead it biggest margin of 16 points in the final seconds.
 
York, now 1-1, will return to action next Saturday at the Christopher Newport Tournament in Newport News, VA.  York will take on Christopher Newport at 4 p.m.
