Late Goal Not Enough as York Women’s Soccer Loses to Maritime

BOX SCORE
THROGGS NECK, N.Y.— York College freshman Estefany Delgado scored on a breakaway late in the second half but it would not be enough to overcome an early deficit, as the Cardinal's women's soccer team lost, 4-1, to Maritime College on Tuesday evening.

Maritime got on the board in the 11th minute when a chip pass by Gabrielle Fox set up Marisa Athan, who dribbled past a defender and scored to make it 1-0.  10 minutes later, the same two hooked up again and made it a 2-0 advantage.  Maritime would then make it 3-0 just before halftime.

The Cardinals got on the board in the 67th minute on Delgado's goal, which was set up by junior Jessica Cornejo

Maritime then added another goal in the 89th minute by Leanne Lavelle to round out the scoring.

York drops to 1-10 with the loss, while Maritime improves to 9-5.  The Cardinals will visit Medgar Evers College on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
