BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN N.Y.— After 106 minutes of scoreless action, York's
Jessica Cornejo finally broke through for the Cardinals, scoring with just under four minutes left to play to give York an exciting, 1-0 victory over Yeshiva University on Thursday evening.
After 90 minutes of regulation and one overtime period, the game seemed destined for a 0-0 draw. But in the 107th minute, on a corner kick,
Estefany Delgado, made a great pass to Cornejo in the goalie box. Cornejo then took a low shot past the keeper on the right for the golden goal.
Despite multiple opportunities throughout the night for both teams, neither team could break through. Whether it was wide or high shots or nice saves, both teams were frustrated throughout the evening. Yeshiva nearly won the game in the first overtime when Merav Saden Berach was left all alone on a breakaway, but York keeper
Sarah Hilaire came up and cut off her angle and forced the shot just wide. Hilaire finished with six saves.
With the win, York improves to 3-12, while the loss drops Yeshiva to 1-11. The Cardinals will close out the 2013 season on Monday with a match at Brooklyn College at 4:30 p.m. That will count as a non-conference match.
