Libreros Outstanding Effort Not Enough, as Women’s Soccer Falls to CSI
BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, N.Y.— York College keeper,
Kiara Libreros was outstanding in goal for the York College women's soccer team, Saturday, but the College of Staten Island was able to slip one goal past her, which proved to be enough as the Cardinals women's soccer team fell, 1-0.
The Dolphins dominated the contest, keeping the ball on their side of the field for nearly the entire match and putting pressure on the York defense all afternoon long. They took 19 shots on the day and kept Libreros busy all day.
Libreros turned away shot after shot, making a couple of spectacular saves along the way. But CSI finally broke through in the 58
th minute when Melissa Gelardi lofted a shot from 40 yards out and Demi-Jean Martorano deflected the ball into net when it came down. That would be the only blemish for Libreros on the day, who made ten saves, but it would be all CSI would need. York could get nothing going offensively, taking just three shots—only one of which forced the keeper to make a save.
The Dolphins improve to 5-2, 2-0 in the CUNYAC, while York drops to 1-4-1, 0-3 in CUNYAC play. York will host Old Westbury on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
