Women’s Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw with NYU-Poly

Malachi Gets York's First Goal of 2012 but Poly Draws Even Late

BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, NY— A goal by the Cardinals' Latima Malachi in the second half helped the York College women's soccer team earn a 1-1 draw against NYU-Polytechnic on Wednesday afternoon in the 2012 home opener.

Playing in their new home at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, York, the Cardinals opened the scoring early in the second half when a pass from Arieal Williams set up Malachi for the match's first goal.  The Cardinals defense was able to hold the lead for most of the second half until the 79th minute when NYU-Poly got the equalizer.  The Fighting Blue Jays' Brenda McLellan took a pass from teammate Desiree Kettell and scored, which would eventually put the match into overtime.

In overtime, neither team could get much going and the match ended in a draw.  York goalie Kiara Libreros stopped five shots in goals, while NYU-Poly keeper, Kylie Hall turned away 12 shots.

NYU-Poly now stands at 1-2-1, while York is 0-1-1.  They will visit Yeshiva University on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
