Men’s Basketball Set to Take on Medgar Evers with a Spot in the CUNYAC Title Game on the Line

The York College men's basketball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 CUNY Athletic Conference/ Con Edison Men's Basketball Championships!

Fresh off an upset win over Brooklyn College in the quarterfinals, York will look to ride the momentum into its semifinal contest.  The Cardinals, who are the #7 seed, will do battle with #6 Medgar Evers College on Tuesday, February 21st at 8:00 p.m. in the Nat Holman Gymnasium at the City College of New York.

Admission is completely free! But you will need a ticket to enter.  Tickets can be obtained by registering online here.

York (9-17) and Medgar Evers (16-10) are quite familiar with each other, having played each other twice this past season, with each team winning the road contest.  The Cardinals edged the Cougars 74-71 on January 11th and a few weeks later, Medgar Evers won another nail biter, defeating York 64-61 on February 3.

Medgar will be led by CUNYAC Player of the Year Winston Douglas, who has gotten the best of York in the two meetings.  Douglas had 16 points and 16 boards in the first contest and then followed up with 21 points and 15 rebounds in the second meeting.  He was fourth in the conference in scoring (18.7ppg) and first in rebounding (12.7 rpg).

The Cardinals are bolstered by CUNYAC All-Star Tony Vails, who is averaging 17.6 points per game, which ranks sixth in the CUNYAC.  Vails had his best game of the season in the first meeting against the Cougars, scoring a season-high 30 points, despite missing most of the second half because of an injury.

With two evenly matched teams, the rubber match should once again be an exciting contest.  If you can't make it out to the game, you can follow the action through live stats.

The winner of the game will take on the College of Staten Island/ Baruch College winner in the finals on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
