Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season with Loss to Old Westbury

JAMAICA N.Y—The York College women's basketball team lost its regular-season finale to Old Westbury by a score of 85-52 on Monday night.
 
A big first half was the difference in the game, as the Panthers outscored York 51-26 in the opening 20 minutes.  Old Westbury shot 53 percent in that first half, while holding York to 29 percent shooting.  
 
Old Westbury (17-7) scored the game's first seven points and held a comfortable lead throughout.  Leading by 13 points, (39-26) with 3:56 left in the half, the Panthers opened up a 12-0 run and closed the half with a 25-point lead. 
 
York made a nice run to open the second half and closed to within ten points with 13:36 to play.  Shadae Rice was key, as she scored 13 points as part of a 17-2 run during the first 6:30 of the second half.  Old Westbury would regroup from there, however, scoring the game's next 11 points to retake a commanding lead. 
 
The Panthers were led by Antoinette Jolly, who had 14 points, ten rebounds and five assists.  Deslyn Applewhaite had 13 points, seven boards and four assists.  DeAndra Scott added 12 points and nine rebounds.
 
York was led by Rice, who had 19 points and nine rebounds.  Ishonda McFarland added a double-double, scoring 10 points and hauling in 14 rebounds.  Danielle Dunn chipped in eight points.
 
York (3-21) will now await the announcement of the pairings for next weekend's CUNY Athletic Conference tournament.
