BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The York College woman's soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit and scored two late,
Carolina Munoz goals to top Brooklyn College, 2-1, in a Thursday evening match at Aviator Field.
The game was played under heavy rain in the opening minutes of the contest. But despite the tough conditions, Brooklyn was able to get an early goal off the foot of Shani Abrahams at the four-minute mark. The weather cleared up in the second half but York could get nothing going for much of the evening.
That changed in the 71
st minute when a foul just outside the left side of the goalie box gave York a free kick. Munoz took the free kick and hit it over the wall and past the Brooklyn keeper to get the equalizer.
Then in the 87
th minute, York was fouled again in almost the exact spot as the first goal. Once again Munoz took the free kick and she rifled a shot over the wall and into the top-left corner to give the Cardinals the lead. York then buckled down on defense for the final three minutes to get the victory.
Though the match was against a conference opponent, the win will go down as a non-conference victory because the teams previously played its conference match. The Cardinals improve to 4-6-1 on the season, while Brooklyn drops to 2-4-1.
York will return to action on Saturday when host CCNY at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, NY.
