Munoz’s Two Goals Lift Women’s Soccer to Overtime Win over Maritime

BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, NY— York College sophomore forward Carolina Munoz netted two goals, including the game-winner in the first overtime to lift the York College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Maritime College on Monday afternoon.

With the score tied at 1-1, just four minutes in overtime, a foul on York just outside the goalie box gave the Cardinals a free kick opportunity.  Munoz took the free kick and bent the ball just over the goalkeeper's head to give the Cardinals the victory.

Maritime played with just 10 players the entire match and still managed to keep the score and match close. York played hard the whole game to keep Maritime from scoring, who outshot York 17-8. Kiara Libreros dominated for York in goal with 10 saves, coming up big throughout the game.

The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Jessica Cornejo set up Munoz for a goal to put York on top.  However, Lenanne Leville tied the game in the 56th minute after being awarded a penalty kick.  The scored would stay the same untl Munoz's overtime heroics gave York the win.

York (3-6-1) returns to action on Thursday at 6:30 pm when they take on Brooklyn College at Aviator Field.
