NYU-Polytechnic Edges Women’s Soccer, 2-1
BROOKLYN, NY—The York College women's soccer team netted its first-ever goal in its third game of its inaugural season but the Cardinals still came up short, falling to NYU-Polytechnic by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Trailing 2-0 in the second half, York's
Carolina Munoz netted an unassisted goal to put York on the scoreboard with a goal in the 63
rd minute of play. York could not get the equalizer though and Polytechnic earned a 2-1 victory.
The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the 20
th minute when Megan Hightower found Catherine Mistretta to give NYU-Poly a 1-0 cushion. Early in the second half, they added an unassisted goal off the foot of Stephanie Arbagian following a breakaway to make the score 2-0. That insurance goal would prove to be necessary, as York would find the net a few minutes later.
The loss drops York's record to 0-3, while NYU-Polytechnic improves to 1-1. The Cardinals will visit Medgar Evers next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
